Summer in Australia is just about over and I was thinking about a photograph that sums up the experience for the majority of Australians. Normally when we are presented with Summery Australians its almost always sun, surf and sand. Bronzed Aussies basking in the sun, surfies, tanned and terrific young bodies. Ain't that the case for the majority of overweight, city bound dwellers of this sunburnt land. Instead, and here I'm offering one of those insights typical of a real artist, most people experience Summer in air conditioned comfort hiding from the sun's deadly UV radiation. I took this photograph using one of my film cameras, a Canon EOS 500 using Kodak Ultramax 400 film. The EOS 500 is a light weight consumer style camera typical of the time, but with the advantage of taking the expensive EF mount pro lenses I use. Kodak Ultramax 400 is a 35mm film aimed at the consumer market that's still widely available and not too expensive. I find it interesting creating aesthetically high end photographs using basic entry level equipment. Have another look at the photograph, it's composition and it's look and feel and don't tell me you can't feel the heat radiating off that sun bleached concrete.
